Sandrine Lescourant – Cie Kilaï

Sandrine Lescourant, also known as Mufasa, is a choreographer and dancer based in Marseille. She founded Compagnie Kilaï. Her approach is rooted in a detailed exploration of movement and social bonds and their representations through body and voice.

Sandrine Lescourant cut her teeth in the world of hip-hop dance battles. Her journey has been enriched by training rooted in the highly codified principles of ballet, contemporary dance and traditional African dance. She has developed a style deeply grounded in hip-hop—a form of underground dance of resistance—and collaborates with several contemporary choreographers (Amala Dianor, Thierry Surace, Pierre Rigal, Sébastien Lefrançois, Anthony Egéa).

Sandrine Lescourant founded Kilaï in 2014 with the aim of making connections, exploring how individuals relate to the world and building bridges between performers and audiences. She began to develop a choreographic triptych on the theme of human relationships. Drawing from her experience and looking more broadly at society at large, she uses dance as a bulwark against violence promoting openness and tolerance.

Her first creation, Parasite (2016) was followed by Icône, (2017) and Acoustique (2019). She presented RAW in 2020 and Anyway in 2021. In 2025 she premiered her new participatory work Blossom
